Putnam and Treadway Claim TitlesBy R.T. Mechling The Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour invaded Hagerstown Billiards Café in Hagerstown, MD, and featured a healthy field of 91 players in the open division and 28 competitors in the women's division. The April 30-May 1 event was highlighted by the outstanding play of Shawn Putnam and 17-year-old Pam Treadway, who both claimed titles with their victories.
Putnam has been nothing short of spectacular this year having won the first two United States Professional Pool Players Association (UPA) stops, an incredible accomplishment indeed. His undefeated run in Hagerstown, which became his first ever victory on this tour, was highlighted by a tough hot seat win over tour points leader Kevin West 9-7. In the finals, Putnam crushed Ryan McCreesh 11-2, whom he had also defeated earlier in the tournament in shutout fashion 9-0. Last event's winner, Ellen Yu, overcame an early defeat by putting together a string of six consecutive wins before being ousted by Sueyen Rhee, but Delaware's Treadway stormed through the competition on her way to the title and a WPBA qualifier. Treadway soundly defeated Rhee twice, including a 9-2 win, to capture the tournament championship.
