Rogers Repeats at Shooters II by InsidePOOL Magazine

Rogers Repeats at Shooters II

By Bill Rosenberger

Leslie Anne Rogers continued her domination at Shooters II, defending her Hunter Classics Tour title by winning for the second year in a row.  The April 16-17 event drew 36 ladies to the Lake Jackson, TX, poolroom, and the field gave Rogers all that she could handle.

Joining Rogers in the weekend tournament were Amanda Lampert, Heather Pulford, and Helen Hayes, who surprised everyone with her highest-ever finish on tour.  In the third round, though, Michelle Cortez sent Hayes to the one-loss side, but she rebounded nicely with six straight wins to reach the semifinals.

In the winners' bracket, Rogers and Lampert were doing what they do best-winning.  The two sharp-shooting Texans met in the hot seat match to see who would advance to the finals.  The match was close from the onset, but Rogers took control late and ran to a 7-4 victory.

After stringing together so many wins, it was left to wonder if Hayes had anything left to battle Lampert in the semifinals.  Apparently her tank was still full because she easily ousted her opponent 7-3.  However, Hayes had nothing left in the finals against Rogers, who pitched the shutout 7-0.

Results:

1st  Leslie Anne Rogers $750

2nd Helen Hayes $560

3rd Amanda Lampert $40

4th Brandi Smith $270

5th Heather Pulford, Natalie Mans $150

7th Julie Stephenson, Melinda Hinojosa $110

9th Suzanne Walkuski, Tara McCracken, Rachel Hurst, Michelle Cortez $65

13th Sharon Townsend, Sherry Romero, Sybil Wyatt, Jennifer Kraver $35
