Schjodt Adds Another First-Place Win to Her Resume by InsidePOOL Magazine

Schjodt Adds Another First-Place Win to Her Resume

by Tori Hilty

Setting the Fury Florida Ladies Amateur Tour on fire lately has become the standard for Debbie Schjodt, and she kept the blaze going by fighting back from the one-loss side to take first place on August 28, 2004, giving her three consecutive Fury wins.  A small but determined field came out to Capone's Billiards in Spring Hill, FL, including ever-improving Helene Caulkin, who was responsible for putting Schjodt on the one-loss side with a 7-6 victory.

Fighting her way through the west side of the chart after her defeat by Schjodt in the first match of the day, Jennifer Prost met Jennifer Nelson, who also suffered a loss to Schjodt, in the quarterfinal match.  Even though Nelson was exhibiting some consistent shooting and the match went back and forth, Prost crept ahead to take the 5-2 win.

Schjodt was going strong through the winners' side until she met Caulkin in the hot seat match.  Watching her 4-1 lead ebb away, Caulkin stood by as Schjodt made a comeback attempt and caught up with her.  From there, the match was a seesaw ride until Caulkin took the match with a hill-hill victory.

Schjodt's hot seat loss set up a rematch against Prost, this time to determine third place.  Each player was able to get a couple of points on their sides of the board before Prost miscued, giving Schjodt the edge she needed to pull ahead and take the win 5-2.

Schjodt, who was hot from her win in the semifinals, met Caulkin in the final match.  Cooling Schjodt down somewhat, Caulkin jumped out ahead of her opponent 3-2, only to have Schjodt answer back by turning the score to her favor 5-3.  Utilizing her excellent bank-shot skills, Caulkin made a bid at a comeback, but Schjodt was there to block her every time.  Both played a lot of safeties and made some impressive cuts, but it was Schjodt who came out ahead in the end, winning the match and her third Fury tournament in a row 9-4.

Results:

1st Debbie Schjodt $350

2nd Helene Caulkin $170

3rd Jennifer Prost $60

4th Jennifer Nelson
