Schultz Earns Great Lakes Tour VictoryBy Bill Rosenberger The Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour held its seventh stop at Pockets in Crestwood, IL, on February 19-20. First time tour player Julie Schultz picked up the victory and earned a WPBA qualifying spot in the process.Schultz, who is from Denver, CO, has been playing pool for nearly 20 years, and she immediately made a splash on the tour. She started out with a 7-5 win over Eileen Rienhart, followed by a 7-6 win over points leader C.J. Jerome. After her third straight victory, she fell to Rebecca Wagner 7-3 in the hot seat match. Wagner, too, was playing an outstanding tournament. Her five straight victories propelled her into the finals, where she waited to face either Julie Melman or Schultz. In the semifinals, Schultz and Melman battled it out, but Schultz grabbed the 7-3 win and advanced to the finals. Wagner, who is from Chicago, won the Windy City Open Ladies' 9-Ball division in January, so she isn't a stranger to the pressures of the finals. But her experience was no match for Schultz' game, as she watched the newcomer wipe her off the table 9-4. Results: 1st Julie Schultz $425 + WPBA qualifier 2nd Rebecca Wagner $275 3rd Julie Melman $180 4th Dawn Fox $120 5th Ellen Van Buren, Amy Latzko $85 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour.
