The men's final match was a different matter altogether. Ralf Souquet met up with Francisco Bustamante in the race to 7, which started off fairly equally until Souquet gained a 5-2 lead over his nemesis. Bustamante came back to make it 5-4 but missed a two-rail bank in the next game, allowing Souquet to reach the hill. A couple of errors in the next two games led to a hill-hill match with Souquet breaking. He made two on the break but tried to play safe on the 2 ball and left his opponent a shot. Unfortunately for Bustamante, he missed, and Souquet, oozing concentration from every pore, ran the rest of the rack out to win the championship 7-6. Bustamante took $7,500 for second place, and first prize was $15,000.
