Steve Lomako Storms Through Fury Midwest Field by InsidePOOL Magazine

Steve Lomako Storms Through Fury Midwest Field

By J.A. Barnes

Amidst an April snowstorm, a field of 35 players converged on The Rack in Livonia, MI, as the Fury Midwest Tour held its fifth event of the season.  Two players, Steve Lomako and Luke Jacko, quickly showed that they were the top competitors in this event, eventually leading to a finals showdown.

By the end of the day, both Lomako and Jacko remained undefeated on the winner's side.  In the hot seat match, Lomako proved to be too much for Jacko, though, as he bested him 7-2.  Jacko's arrival on the B-side matched him up against Danny Smith, who had made a fantastic run through the one-loss side with five consecutive wins.  Smith's hill-hill defeat of Mark DeYoung in the previous match boosted his confidence in the semifinal, as he and Jacko went game for game, ending up at hill-hill.  Lomako took the final game to advance to the finals for a rematch against Lomako.

The finals started as a head-to-head race with Jacko taking a narrow 5-4 lead, and it appeared that Jacko had seized the momentum when Lomako missed his opportunity to tie the match at 5-5 when he missed the 9-ball in the tenth rack.  Up 6-4, though, Jacko, failed to capitalize, and Lomako used this to his advantage by taking the next five games to take the tournament 9-6.
