Strong Play Continues to Dominate SML Entertainment's 9-Ball Championship

By InsidePOOL Staff

Hewitt-OlympOval.jpgThe Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta, is playing host to this year's SML Entertainment's 9-Ball Championships.  The SML sponsored event is showcasing some of the game's top players, and the competition has really taken shape after the second day.

The second round featured a stunning upset by Canadian Danny Hewitt, who overcame a 6-2 deficit to send Ohio's Corey Deuel to the one-loss side.  The match went to hill-hill before Hewitt closed it out.  on Thursday, Deuel will attempt to stave off elimination against Matt Nickle, while Hewitt will look to continue his winning ways against Clair Gauthier.

Paul Potier, Steve Cherewyk, Johnny Archer, Jeff White, Alex Pagulayan, Danny Basavich, and Earl Strickland all advanced with ease into the third round, while Luc Salvas narrowly avoided being sent to the west side by Sean Monkman, whom he defeated in a hill-hill thriller.  Salvas will face Al Logan in the third round Thursday.

As the field dwindles down, the action is sure to keep heating up until the event concludes on Saturday, April 23.
