The Kid is Delicious at Rhode Island Joss Tour Stop By InsidePOOL Staff Danny “Kid Delicious” Basavich triumphed this weekend on the Joss Tour event, being held at Snooker’s Café and Billiards in Providence, RI. He came back from the one-loss side to double-dip Shaun Wilkie in the two-set finals.
Shaun "The Shirt" Wilkie, the 23-year-old young gun from Maryland, sat nicely in the hot seat with his 9-7 win over “Kid Delicious.” Eddie Vasquez was waiting for him, and the match went fast and furious with “Delicious” the 9-5 victor, earning his rematch with Wilkie in the finals. “Kid” won the flip, and before he broke the balls, he said to Shawn, "Well, good luck. Hey, shake my hand," and the match was off and running. Basavich played slowly and methodically, taking his time and studying each shot. The first set went hill-hill with Basavich winning 9-8, but because the Joss Tour practices the true double-elimination format, Basavich needed to defeat Wilkie twice. Without a recess, the next match started immediately, but this time it was all “Kid Delicious” as he plowed through Wilkie with perfect safeties, playing at his own pace. Everything went Kid's way, and if he did miss, he left Wilkie snookered. The score was 7 to zip when Wilkie finally got on the scoreboard with a game, but he didn't make a ball on the break, and the score ended Basavich 9, Wilkie 1. An $1,100 Joss cue was raffled off, and it was handmade by Danny Janes. Folks were buying the tickets like hot cakes, and the lucky winner was Jessa Goldstein, one of the friendly bartenders at Snooker's. She was beaming from ear to ear and said she would always treasure this cue. The crowd was excited about the upcoming $25,000-added Joss Tour finale next week in Portland, ME, and folks are already making plans to attend the big event at Spot Shot Billiards on June 3-6, 2004.
