The Moore, The MerrierBy Bill Rosenberger Atlanta native Steve Moore captured the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour event held at Mr. Cues II in Atlanta, GA. The victory was Moore's second on tour and maybe his sweetest. Moore went undefeated on the two-day stop held December 11-12, 2004, but had to face some stiff competition in his last few matches. B.J. Ussery, InsidePOOL Magazine's November Player of the Month, was also undefeated heading into his hot seat match with Moore. After trading games back and forth early, Moore and Ussery looked to be headed to the hill, but Moore's late surge propelled him to a 9-7 victory. Ussery's semifinal opponent was tour director Tommy Kennedy, who had battled back from a defeat to Clint McColough on Saturday to reach the Sunday's final few matches. Ussery was again unable to hang on, and Kennedy earned the 9-7 victory to reach the finals. In the finals, it looked like Kennedy was going to complete his comeback after going up 7-4. But Moore wasn't going to settle for anything less than a win. After taking five straight racks, Moore was ahead 9-7, and the two traded a couple of games before Moore closed it out for the 11-9 win.
