Santos Sambajon, Jr., defeated Eddie Galati 11-7, and Rodolfo Luat won his match against Kasuki Masuda 11-5, but countryman Efren Reyes was usurped by Satoshi Kawabata of Japan 11-8. Reigning world champion Thorsten Hohmann defeated Canadian champ John Horsfall 11-8, and defending champ Ralf “The Surgeon” Souquet sent San Diego’s Victor Ignacio to the one-loss side 11-7. In the women’s division, some favorites prevailed, while a few surprises popped up as well. “The Duchess of Doom,” Allison Fisher delivered Liz Schwartreich to the west side of the chart 9-4, and Karen Corr defeated Ming “The Empress” Ng 9-1. However, Stacy Hurst bested Hall of Famer Loree Jon Jones 9-3, and Jennifer Barretta dealt Jennifer Chen her first loss 9-7.
