"The Scottish Lion" Victorious on Tri-State TourBy Todd Fleitman Stewart “The Scottish Lion” Warnock bested the field at the Tri-State Tour’s stop at J & J Billiards on September 19, 2004. This 9-ball event was open to “B” through “D” handicapped players and boasted a $5000-added purse. It looked like Liz Schwartzreich, an up-and-coming professional player, was destined to become the undefeated winner of this tournament. In a close match with David Faust that ended 7-6 and after having won five matches in a row, Schwartzreich now sat in the hot seat. While she was comfortably locked into second place, Warnock was fighting his way through the one-loss side after suffering a third-round loss to his friend Faust 7-4. Warnock defeated two more players to earn a rematch with Faust, but this time, he ended up on top with a 7-5 win. In the final match, Schwartzreich asserted herself with an early two-game lead; however, a long wait in the hot seat took its toll. This, coupled with Warnock’s strong shot-making ability, turned the match around, and Warnock ended up finishing his opponent off 9 -5, reaping his hard-earned rewards.
