Triple Play for Kennedy By Bill Rosenberger Tommy Kennedy won his third straight J. Pechauer Southeast 9-Ball event, and this was arguably the toughest. Kennedy had to face fellow UPA pro Mike Davis in the exciting final match at Pockets in Dothan, AL, on February 13. A field of 45 players came for the "Alabama Open," including many of the talented locals. There was also a full house of spectators that enjoyed great food, great fun, and great pool. Davis and Kennedy first met in the hot seat match, and in a nailbiter, Davis squeezed out a 9-8 win. Kennedy then faced Scotty Townsend in the semifinals, and it was the second straight edge-of-your-seat match. Townsend reached the hill first at 8-5, but Kennedy got within one at 8-7. In Game 16, Townsend tried to carom the cue ball off of the 3 and into the 9 for the win, but the 9 ball just hung beside the pocket. Kennedy knocked home the easy 3-9 combo, followed by a break and run for a 9-8 win. In the race-to-11 final match, both Davis and Kennedy came out firing. The two traded games back and forth early, but Kennedy emerged with a lead that he wouldn't relinquish, winning his third straight event 11-7.
