Ulrich Wins Inaugural Lake Michigan EventBy J.A. Barnes The Fury Lake Michigan Tour held its inaugural tournament on April 16-17 at Cue Phoria in Rivergrove, IL. A small but talented field of 17 players made their way for the weekend event, including Josh Ulrich and Gordy Vandervear. Ulrich, who is no stranger to competition, breezed through to reach the hot seat match against Jeff Sergeant. Ulrich started off the contest with a commanding 4-1 lead, but his opponent steadily pulled close. With Ulrich on the hill at 6-4, Sergeant made his move, winning the final three games to close out the match 7-6. In the semifinals, Ulrich seemed unphased as he met Vandervear, who also became a victim of Sergeant's earlier in the tournament. The two kept it close, but in the end, Ulrich pulled out the win 5-3. In the final match, Ulrich once again grabbed the early lead on Sergeant at 4-2. Both players traded games for a while until Ulrich reached the hill at 8-6. This time, though, he didn't leave room for Sergeant to make another comeback, running out the final rack to win the opening Lake Michigan Tour event 9-6. Results: 1st Josh Ulrich $380 2nd Jeff Sergeant $225 3rd Gordy Vandervear $150 4th Henry Brodt $85
