Vidas Lassos Victory at Cadillac Ranch CasinoBy Carissa Biggs Mike "The Kid" Vidas made quick work of Tim Tweedell at the Cadillac Ranch Casino on the February 26-27. The J. Pechauer West Coast Tour featured the best of the west, as Glen Atwell and 2004 Player of the Year Stan Tourangeau also joined the field.
One surprise was the no-show of Raul Abenojar, who was second place in the points race. The second was the early departure of Atwell, who fell to Tourangeau and Don Wirtaman on the first day. Tinsley Johnson, who may be the dark horse player this year, has been traveling with Gilbert Arellano and Josh Palmer and playing against Northwest players to sharpen his game. It paid off for him at this event, as he earned his best finish in fourth place. It was Vidas and Tweedell who made it through winners' bracket to reach the hot seat match, with Vidas coming out on top to make it to the finals. Steve Lingelbach, who ousted Johnson in the left bracket, was taken out by Tweedell to set up the rematch in the finals. In the finals, it looked as thought Tweedell was going to walk away with the championship, as he jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. But Vidas never gave in, and he won 13 of 14 games to win the match 13-6. The ladies also had an event at the casino over the weekend. Mary Hopkin, of Tri Cities, WA, battled Linda Carter in the finals and came out on top 7-2.
