Weather Doesn't Dampen Ulrich's Weekend by InsidePOOL Magazine

Weather Doesn't Dampen Ulrich's Weekend

By Bill Rosenberger

Nearly seven inches of wet snow fell over the weekend of February19-20, but it didn't dampen the mood for the Fury Midwest Amateur 9-Ball Tour stop at Emerald Q Billiards in Waterford, MI.  Josh Ulrich dominated the field of 45 players, as he turned up his game to earn the victory.

Ulrich got the best of Bryce Young, Rick Bolton, Frank Lorenz, and Toledo, OH, teen sensation Danny Smith.  Smith, who is 17, did get the best of local favorite Jeremy Seaman in the left bracket before bowing out to Ritter and finishing in fourth place.

Ulrich faced Mark Ritter, who was just as much of a favorite as Ulrich until their hot seat meeting.  He had knocked off four straight opponents before Ulrich shut him out 7-0 to take the hot seat.  In Ritter's semifinal match up against Kevin Lutzky, the wheels really fell off.  Lutzky proceeded to oust Ritter 5-2 and advance to the finals against Ulrich.

In the finals, Lutzky grabbed the lead at 1-0, but he wasn't able to hold it.  Ulrich took over the match from there, as he raced to an 8-5 lead.  In Game 14, Ulrich sunk the 9 on the break, giving him a well-earned victory.

Results:

1st Josh Ulrich $530
2nd Kevin Lutzky $340
3rd Mark Ritter $180
4th Danny Smith $100
5th Jeremy Seaman, Casey Ward $75
7th Joe Henry, Tommy Strickland $50
