Windy City Winds to CloseJohnson Shoots Down Bowman in 8-Ball Event By Tom Martin, InsidePOOL Staff Quad-cities native Josh Johnson cashed in the big money here at the Windy City 8-ball tournament, going undefeated. He faced 9-ball winner Jason Kirkwood in the hot seat match and came out on top 5-3. Bowman, who had lost to Johnson earlier in the event, ousted Kirkwood in a 5-1 rout. In the finals, Johnson steamrolled to a quick 3-1 lead, but Bowman bounced back and eventually reached the hill first in the race to 5. A missed cross-side bank by Jesse allowed Johnson to tie the match at 4-4, after which he promptly broke and ran out to take the title. Bell Rings Up Another Windy City Title Previous winner Pam Bell defeated Amy Latzko in the finals of the women’s 8-ball event. In a replay of the hot seat match, where Latzko was bested by Bell, Latzko was bent on revenge—and, after hanging an 8 ball the first game of the match, built up a 4-2 lead by winning three games in a row. Two last-ball misses by Latzko gave Bell life, but a miscue on the 8 cost Latzko the win at 4-3, and Bell broke and ran the final rack to take the top spot. Chicago local Renee Edmiston finished third. In the BCA 8-ball team event, it was team LCCS out of Shooter’s Cue Club in Rockford, IL, that emerged the victor. Sadly, what started out as a fantastic match-up between them and team Tight Pockets, with the first race to 13 going down to the wire the first set, ended in a messy dispute as Tight Pockets intentionally forfeited the last game of the second set after a dispute over a potential foul. LCCS picked up $1,130 for first, while Tight Pockets went home with $770 for second. Rich’s Roadhouse #2 team and Critter Control filled out the third and fourth spots, earning paydays of $530 and $370, respectively.
