World Pool Masters Returns To Holland

WPMLogoNewweb.jpgMATCHROOM SPORT is delighted to announce that the eleventh running of the World Pool Masters will be taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September 2004. And following on from the huge success of last year the venue will once again be the Hotel Zuiderduin,  in Egmond aan Zee.

Event organiser Matchroom Sport has assempled a very strong field of sixteen of the very best 9-ball players in the world to Egmond and with a US$62,000 prize-fund on offer, the action is sure to be intense. The line-up includes recently crowned World Champion Alex Pagulayan, the crowd pleasing Filipino Canadian as well as defending champ, Tornado Tony Drago of Malta.

In addition, star names such as former World Champions Thorsten Hohmann of Germany, America’s Johnny Archer, Filipino legend Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Iceman Mika Immonen of Finland will all be battling for the US$20,000 top prize.

Representing Dutch hopes are three of Holland’s premier 9-ball talents. They include European No.2 Niels Feijen of The Hague – the current European Straight Pool gold medallist and townsman Alex Lely, a winner of this event in 1999. Making up Team Orange will be young Nick van den Berg, one of the brightest young hopes of European pool.Play commences on the Friday evening with the annual trickshot showdown, the World Pool Trickshot Masters. Now in its ninth year, the Trickshot Masters features six players each performing a twelve minute routine with a panel of judges deciding the winner. Players taking part include former winners Bogdan Wolkowski and Alex Pagulayan as well as snooker superstar Steve Davis of England.

Matchroom Sport will be producing 15 x 1 hour programmes which will be broadcast around the world on major stations such as Sky Sports in the UK, ESPN Star Sport throughout Asia and Fox Net in the USA.

Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, “The event was such a success last year that it was a simple decision to return to Holland. The crowds in Egmond were fantastic and every single ticket was sold.

“I believe that it would be difficult to find a stronger set of players to contest this major event and I am looking forward to coming to Holland in September for what promises to be the very best in 9-ball action.”
