2003 is only Sarah Ellerby's second season on the Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) tour. "Velvet", as Sarah is known on tour, caught the imagination of the billiards community in her rookie 2002 season. Numerous impressive performances, including a top-5 finish at the San Diego Classic, saw Sarah rise quickly through the WPBA rankings from number 48 to 14. Sarah was confirmed as the most exciting up and coming player on tour by recognizing her as the "2002 Rookie of the Year".
Although battling to overcome an elbow injury, Sarah's progress has continued through the early part of 2003. Sarah is currently ranked 13th on the WPBA tour and is focused on breaking into the top ten players in the world in 2003.
Growing up in England, Sarah began her billiards career at the age of twelve. By age fourteen Sarah had already claimed her first title and was soon being credited as one of the best female billiards players in England. From 1992-1999 Ellerby competed on the England International Billiards Tour, twice earning the titles of World and European 8-ball team champion. In 2001, Sarah decided to move to the United States in search of sterner competition and to pursue her goal of becoming the best female billiards player in the world.
