Young Gun Loar Shoots Down “Double J” by InsidePOOL Magazine

The featured match-up at 9 p.m. was between 2003 Derby City Classic All-Around Champion Larry Nevel versus all-around excellent player John “The Honeymooner” Schmidt out of California.  Schmidt, who started out the match “playing like a donkey,” he said, quickly found his footing on the television table and, running out from every direction, took the match 11-5.

John_Schmidt_USOpen.jpgDanny “Kid Delicious” Basavich continues on his hot streak this year in his match against one-pocket player Richie Richeson.  Basavich won the first game and never gave his opponent a chance after that, cruising to a 6-1 lead.  He only allowed his opponent one more game before crossing the finish line with an 11-2 score.

Wednesday’s matches will begin in the elimination rounds.  Thursday evening will culminate in the much-touted ring game, with the participants yet to be finalized but are limited to U.S. Open winners or World Champions.  Friday’s dinner in honor of Steve Mizerak has been canceled because “The Miz” was unable to get out of Florida due to the hurricane.
