Sisemore and Butler Qualify For Nationals
The South Texas Junior Pool Tour held its first Junior Qualifier at its newest sponsor poolroom, Bogies Billiards and Games, in Houston, TX, Saturday, March 22. They came from as far as Sherman, TX, to qualify for a chance to compete and win a qualifying spot for Junior Nationals.
Nineteen juniors, along with parents, family members, and friends, converged on Bogies Billiards to battle it out for qualifying spots for the 2008 Junior Nationals. For junior hopefuls and brothers Joey (11) and J.C Torres (14), this was their first event, and even though they were eliminated, they were determined to qualify. Joey wowed the crowd on Saturday, taking down opponents in record time in an attempt to fight through the one-loss side after a first-round hill-hill loss to Brandon Sisemore (17). Eric Molina (17) also fought his way back from the one-loss side, finally eliminating Joey Torres and Sam Burns in order to meet up with the undefeated Sisemore for one final race to 7. Eric’s methodical and collected style couldn’t see him through to the end, for Brandon powered his way through to a 7-4, come-from-behind win, earning him a... Kids The Winners at Billiard Education Expo Fundraiser
Combining opportunities to challenge top pros with a pool raffle put $2,300 in the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) coffers at last week’s Hopkins Super Billiards Expo. The money will support the BEF scholarship and junior programs. The fundraiser was made possible by the generous donation by Brunswick Billiards for the pool table raffle, a booth courtesy of Expo producers Dawn and Allen Hopkins and the pro players who provided exciting challenge matches for the amateur players and other Expo attendees to watch.
Professional billiard players donating their time to assist in the charity challenge were: Artistic Pool Masters Championship participants Andy Segal, Bruce Barthelette, and Tim Chin; WPBA pro players Ga Young Kim and Allison Fisher; and UPA pro players Mika Immonen, Mike Jackson, Raj Hundal, and Tim Hill.
Several volunteers assisted BEF Executive Director Laura Smith over the four-day expo to make this a successful fundraiser: Bob Hess, Martyne Backman, and Roger Gross. Roger amped up the entertainment factor by challenging a number of the pros to one-handed matches, several of which he... Read more at: . |

Super Billiards Expo Event Roundup
Artistic Pool Masters Championship
The Super Billiards Expo concluded March 16 just after 6 p.m., when the final event, the Artistic Pool Masters Championship, crowned a new champion. Mark Dimick bested Eric Yow in the finals with the title coming down to the final shot. Dimick successfully completed it on his first attempt, and although Yow could have taken the event on his first attempt or tied on his second, he failed to execute the shot each time, making Dimick the new champion.
